Geneva, from 1 to 2 February 2022
Venue: Geneva, Switzerland
Highlights: The bureaux of the conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions met on 1 and 2 February 2022 to discuss the organization of the face-to-face segment of the meetings of the conferences of the Parties to be held from 6 to 17 June 2022, in Geneva, Switzerland. Bureaux members not able to attend the meeting in-person participated through a secure online connection.
The bureaux considered, among others, practical arrangements for the meetings taking into account the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the organization of work of the meetings and arrangements for the high-level segment.
In terms of the main outcomes of the meeting, the bureaux provided positive feedback on the arrangements planned by the Secretariat for the meetings, and signaled the wish that the meetings are face-to-face without online participation. The Secretariat was requested to put in place contingency arrangements, subject to the availability of resources. In the event COVID-19 circumstances made it necessary, further consultation would take place and the bureaux would meet again to decide on the matter. The bureaux requested the Secretariat to explore opportunities for the high-level segment to be held in the margins of the “Stockholm +50” Conference, in Sweden.
Working Language: English.
