Concluding on 12 December 2025, the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) brought together more than 6,000 participants and reaffirmed commitments to multilateral solutions for a more resilient planet.
UNEA-7 resulted in 11 resolutions, three decisions and a Ministerial Declaration.
The resolutions seek to advance national actions or strengthen international cooperation on a wide range of issues, including the sound management of chemicals and waste, the sound management of minerals and metals, antimicrobial resistance, coral reefs, glaciers, combating wildfires, sargassum seaweed blooms, sustainable use of AI, sustainable solutions through sport, youth engagement, and synergies for national implementation of MEAs. The outcomes of UNEA-7 are available here.
Several resolutions resonate with the objectives and the work of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, most notably:
- UNEP/EA.7/Res.3 - Resolution on strengthening international cooperation on the environmentally sound management of minerals and metals
- UNEP/EA.7/Res.5 - Resolution on promoting synergies, cooperation or collaboration for national implementation of multilateral environmental agreements and other relevant environmental instruments
- UNEP EA.7/Res.8 - Resolution on sound management of chemicals and waste.
In line with the mandates of the Conferences of the Parties, the Secretariat will cooperate with UNEP in the implementation of the activities of UNEA-7 resolutions relevant to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions.
UNEA-7 held the second MEAs Day, dedicated to international agreements addressing the most pressing environmental issues, such as pollution.
The Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions were represented during this event by Mr. Joswa Aoudou, President of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention, speaking on behalf of the Presidents of the Conferences to the three conventions, and the BRS Conventions Executive Secretary Rolph Payet.
