The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions decided to Illuminate the Palais des Nations, seat of the United Nations Office at Geneva, in order to spotlight the global problem of plastic waste pollution, and promote the work carried out on the environmentally sustainable management of plastic waste.
The project took place over two phases:
Phase 1 Gallery
Palais des Nations was illuminated in the Basel Convention’s green hues during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which was held in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021. The aim was to highlight the interlinkages between plastic waste pollution and climate change.
Phase 2 Gallery
An illuminations show was projected on the Palais des Nations during the face-to-face segment of the 2021/2022 meetings of the Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (2021/2022 BRS COPs), which were held in Geneva from 7 to 17 June 2022.
