Highlights: In order to strengthen the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, there is a need to expand the number and diversity of trained, confident and willing chairs for the various meetings under the conventions. The training aims to strengthen the skills and knowledge required to effectively chair international meetings, including meeting preparation and management, rules of procedure, facilitation of negotiations, gender considerations and cultural awareness.
The training will consist of two sequential components: the completion of an online training course, followed by a three-day face-to-face workshop in Geneva from 25 to 27 November 2026.
The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) conventions is currently inviting nominations for participation in the training. Nominations should be submitted by 10 September 2026.
Target audience: The training targets representatives of Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions who have taken a leading role in negotiations under the conventions and have an interest in chairing future meetings. Reflecting the cross-cutting nature of the training and its relevance to the chemicals and waste cluster more broadly, representatives involved in related international processes will also be invited to participate.
Organizers: The training is organized by the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, with the generous financial support of the European Union and the Government of Germany.
Working language: English will be the working language of the training.
