Webinar: Contribution of the chemicals and waste conventions to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

With a view to supporting national implementation across the biodiversity and the chemicals and waste agendas, we are pleased to announce that the Secretariats of the Minamata Convention on Mercury and of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions are organizing an online information session on the contribution of the chemicals and waste conventions to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

The information session will provide an overview of matters related to the impacts of chemicals and waste pollution on biodiversity in the context of the upcoming meetings under the Convention on Biological Diversity, namely, the fifth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI-5; 16 – 18 October 2024) and the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-16; 21 October – 1 November 2024) to be held in Cali, Colombia.

Webinars on the contribution of the chemicals and waste Conventions to Target 7 of the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

Time and place: Virtual, 18 April 2024, 13.00h CET to 15.00h CET. 

The Secretariats of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and the Minamata Convention on mercury are convening an online information session on the contribution of the chemicals and waste Conventions to Target 7 of the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The information session will facilitate exchange among National Focal Points to the biodiversity and chemicals and waste Conventions on how Parties are incorporating control measures for highly hazardous chemicals in their revised National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans, as well as on the need for additional indicators related to highly hazardous chemicals in the monitoring framework for the GBF, under Target 7.
