Under the BRS Conventions, children and youth have been considered, since the adoption and entry into force of these treaties, then enhanced via synergies between them, through obligations embodied under their provisions and implementation of various activities related to e.g.: Parties’ national implementation/action plans, education, awareness-raising, outreach, and capacity-building, among others.
Achieving the common objectives of the BRS Conventions for the future, towards protecting human health and the environment against the harmful effects of hazardous chemicals and wastes, indeed implies better protection and tangible integration, by all relevant stakeholders, of children and youth in the implementation of the BRS Conventions.
Through the implementation of the BRS Conventions, notably by Parties (e.g. through their National Implementation Plans - NIPs - under the Stockholm Convention Article 7), it is therefore essential to work to protect the environment for/by and the health of children and young people from the harmful impacts of hazardous chemicals and wastes, including them actively in such efforts.
In this regard, the BRS Conventions’ Secretariats have been developing a range of initiatives, in various areas, such as:
