The objective of the regional preparatory meetings is to contribute to successful meetings of the conferences of the Parties (COPs) in 2025 by giving regions the possibility to consult each other in advance of the COPs, consider meeting documents, discuss substantive matters, identify regional priorities and challenges, and facilitate the preparation of regional positions.
The dates, venues and organizers of the meetings are as follows:
- Africa : 18-20 March 2025, in Lusaka, Zambia; hosted by the Government of Zambia and organized with support from the BCRC/SCRC South Africa
- Asia-Pacific : 4-6 April 2025, in China; organized with support from the BCRC/SCRC China (exact venue to be determined)
- Eastern Europe : 26-28 March 2025, in Warsaw, Poland; hosted by the Government of Poland and organized with support from the BCRC Slovakia
- Latin America and the Caribbean : 18-20 March 2025, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; organized with support from the BCRC/SCRC Trinidad and Tobago.
The programmes of the meetings have been developed in close consultation with the bureaux members of the concerned regions. The participation of observers in the open sessions of the meetings is subject to agreement by the members of the bureaux from the respective region and the meeting venue capacity. The regional preparatory meetings for the 2025 COPs are organized thanks to the generous financial support provided by the Governments of Germany, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as the United Nations Environment Programme.
