Outcome

25 participants from the following countries attended the training: Australia, Argentina, Armenia, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Ecuador, Estonia, Eswatini, Germany, Guyana, Mozambique, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Saint Lucia, Serbia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, State of Palestine, Thailand, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe

The participants benefited from the experience of former chairs who led various BRS processes, including the conferences of the Parties, meetings of subsidiary bodies, contact groups and informal consultations. Through the combination of lectures, case studies, videos and simulation exercises the participants learned firsthand how to effectively chair intergovernmental meetings and guide them toward consensual outcomes. In addition, participants benefited from a specific session on understanding negotiation dynamics to raise awareness of different negotiation styles and preferences, and to highlight the power of active listening, and to provide tips on how to get one’s message across.
