Presidents’ Joint Meeting - Second Meeting

The Presidents of the conferences of the parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions met on 12 December 2012, before the joint meeting of the bureaux of the conferences of the parties to the three conventions, taking place on 13-14 December 2012, in Geneva.

The Presidents considered proposals on the organization of the upcoming ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the conferences of the parties to the three conventions, scheduled to be held back-to-back April and May 2013, also in Geneva. This included three options for the tentative schedule of work of the back-to-back meetings of the conferences of the parties for discussion at and approval by the joint meeting of the bureaux.

The Presidents further agreed to propose to the joint bureaux that the ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the conferences of parties of the three conventions be held from 28 April 2013 to 10 May 2013.

The Presidents noted that the replies to the high-level survey of parties had in a high percentage been in favour of holding a high-level event. They discussed a number of potential topics - linked in general to the synergies process - and modalities of the high-level segment. They agreed to propose to the bureaux that the high-level segment consisting of ministerial round tables, on Thursday afternoon, 9 May 2013, and a plenary session with ministers, on Friday morning, 10 May 2013.
