Regional preparatory meetings for the 2023 COPs

The objective of the regional preparatory meetings is to contribute to successful meetings of the conferences of the Parties (COPs) in 2023 by giving regions the possibility to consult each other in advance of the COPs, consider meeting documents, discuss substantive matters, identify regional priorities and challenges, and facilitate the preparation of regional positions.

The dates, venues and organizers of the meetings are as follows:

  • Asia-Pacific: 14-16 March 2023, in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Africa: 21-23 March 2023, in Dakar, Senegal; organized with support from the BCRC/SCRC Senegal
  • Eastern Europe: 28-30 March 2023, in Zagreb, Croatia; organized with support from the BCRC Slovakia
  • Latin America and the Caribbean: 28-30 March 2023, in Panama City, Panama; organized with support from the BCRC/SCRC Panama

The programmes of the meetings have been developed in close consultation with the bureaux members of the concerned regions. Further information on the regional preparatory meetings is available on the above individual meeting webpages.

The regional preparatory meetings for the 2023 COPs are organized thanks to the generous financial support provided by the Governments of Germany and Switzerland.

The participation of observers in the open sessions of the meetings is subject to agreement by the members of the bureaux from the respective region and meeting venue capacity. Certain sessions of the meetings are closed to observers. Observers wishing to participate in these meetings should contact the Secretariat as follows: for the Asia-Pacific region, Ms. Babita Isaac (email: Babita.isaac@un.org) by 3 February 2023; for the Africa region, Ms. Emilie Raynaud (email: regionalmeetings@brsmeas.org) by 10 February 2023; for the Eastern Europe region, Ms. Jo Ann Edma (jo.edma@un.org) by 17 February 2023; and for the Latin America and the Caribbean region, Ms. Emilie Raynaud (email: regionalmeetings@brsmeas.org) by 17 February 2023. Observers are responsible for making their own arrangements to participate in the meetings, including travel, visa and hotel arrangements. Financial assistance will not be provided for the participation of observers in the meetings.
